If you’re a long-time reader of this blog, you know that I find the concept of risk to be fascinating. So it should be no surprise that I’ve found Carl’s recent “meditations on risk” series to be a great read:
- It Never Rains in Seattle. (on how our mind draws conclusions about risk based on far too little data)
- 82 Years is Not Enough. (about how little we can know for sure from just 82 years of market returns)
- Fine Tuning Risk (on whether risk can be measured at all)
- What If There Is a Fire? (on the inadequacy of risk tolerance questionnaires)
Between that series, a recent (astonishingly flattering) review of my last book, and a whole host of other excellent reading, this week’s roundup may be a bit overwhelming in size. Sorry about that.

Congratulations on the book review, Mike.
I too loved that “risk” series of blog posts at the Behavior Gap blog. We all need to reexamine our understanding of the basics. We need to be sure we are building on a solid foundation.
