The Tax Foundation recently released a report showing that in 2008, approximately 1/3 of tax filers paid no income tax whatsoever. Kelly Phillips Erb and Kay Bell each do a great job of explaining why this is such a cause for concern:
- Who Should Pay Taxes? from Tax Girl
- More and More Well-Off Tax Filers Are Not Paying Any Taxes from Don’t Mess with Taxes
Meanwhile, The Tax Foundation had two other particularly good reads this week:
- Can Income Tax Hikes Close the Deficit? (How high would tax rates have to be in order to fund the current level of spending?)
- Who Is Really to Blame for the Bewildering Tax Rules? (It’s not the IRS’s fault.)
