I&#039;d agree with you that the whole idea of &quot;beating the market&quot; is based on a faulty premise. It seems to assume that the market&#039;s return is of some special significance. Whereas a much more meaningful definition of success would be how you&#039;re doing in terms of meeting your goals rather than in terms of beating the market.

I would also agree with your statement that if you can foresee market shifts before everybody else, well then &lt;i&gt;of course&lt;/i&gt; you can beat the market. I&#039;m just of the opinion that seeing such shifts (before all the experts) is easier said than done.</description>

It&#039;s possible to have better returns then what the market averages, especially if you&#039;re able to foresee market shifts before the masses.  Ie...a broken financial system.</description>
