This week, rather than doing my normal blog roundup, I thought I’d point out my other favorite online resource for investing information: The Bogleheads forum.
What’s a Boglehead?
The term is a reference to John Bogle — the founder of Vanguard and creator of the first index fund. (He’s also a relentless investor advocate and a prolific author.) “Boglehead” is used to describe somebody who follows Bogle’s advice: Buying & holding a diversified portfolio of super-low-cost mutual funds.
That makes me a Boglehead, for instance. And probably most of you as well.
The Forum
The Bogleheads forum is a community with thousands of active users. On any given day you’ll see numerous discussions of nuts and bolts investing topics like:
- Asset allocation
- Selecting investments in a 401(k)
- Converting Vanguard Investor shares to (lower-cost) Admiral shares
It’s also a good place to go for input on less common questions, such as this one about Monte Carlo simulations that I asked earlier this week.
Go Check It Out
If you have any questions about investing, or want a second (and third, fourth, and fifth) opinion on your specific portfolio, I can’t recommend the Bogleheads highly enough.
Blog Carnivals
Finally, since I promised to link back, the following blogs were kind enough to include me in their carnivals this week:
- Best of Money Carnival, hosted by Money Crush
- Festival of Stocks, hosted by Fat Pitch Financials
- Wealth Builder Carnival, hosted by My Wealth Builder
- Tax Carnival, hosted by Don’t Mess with Taxes
- Stock Carnival Ecstasy hosted by Fast Swings
- Carnival of Wealth, hosted by Personal Dividends
- Carnival of Financial Planning, hosted by The Skilled Investor
Thanks for reading!

I think “boglehead,” just got added to my “random words I like,” list…
Great explanation. And a really, really great word.
Yes, I have a weird obsession with language! lol
thanks for all the resources! Lot’s of information out there, hard to keep it all straight in my head sometimes!
It is a brilliant forum, and one I visit and post to regularly under the name “Indices”. It’s also a place where you can ask a question on literally any topic. The best forum I’ve ever been to in all my years perusing the web.
