		<description>Ah, capital gains, I remember those.

Here in the UK we have a capital gains tax allowance per year -- currently just over £10,000. It can be prudent to manage your investments to utilise this allowance every year to effectively &#039;defuse&#039; long-term gains where possible, although the most blatant ways of doing so (for instance selling one day then buying the next) are now barred.

I&#039;m surprised you don&#039;t have a similar allowance in the U.S.? Generally you guys seem to get a better ride! ;-)</description>
